The Iconography Studio

You are very welcome to come and share Cheryll's studio.

A bright airy room, with an outlook on a shady London garden. The overhead lighting is Full Spectrum Daylight and brightens up the studio on a dull day and is an essential requirement at night time for true colour matching. The music centre and speakers give another dimension to the atmosphere of creativity. This is the Studio where she does her own work, so you will be working alongside her some of the time.

Easels for Oil painting are the radial standing type, fully adjustable to take large or small canvases. The height is adjustable to cater for the tall and short! High stool or low stools are available for sitting at the easel unless you prefer to stand. There are no rules here! A full range of brushes from jumbo to tiny, with all manner of shapes, Flat, Round, Filbert and Fan and also pallette knives for Knife Painting. Cheryll prefers to use tear-off disposable pallettes to ease the clean-up at the end of the class.

Watercolour paper can be bought from the studio and Cheryll will show you how to stretch it onto a board. Alternatively you can purchase a watercolour block which is pre-stretched and gummed around the edges. The Studio has a good selection of squirrel-hair and goats-hair brushes, pencils and rubbers. For special watercolour paint effects there are wax crayons, salt, masking fluid and Tissue Paper. The Low stools come into play here as the work needs to be horizontal and one needs to sit comfortably at the table.

For Egg Tempera, the Gessoed Boards are available to buy from the Studio. Cheryll makes them herself and will instruct you how to make your own, but it is time consuming and would take up too much time in a class. There is a full pallette of pure pigments and will make up the egg painting medium at the beginning of each class so that you will be able to do it yourself. You will be using the same brushes as for Watercolour, but you might want to buy your own sable brushes.
