Painting and Iconography Courses by Cheryll Kinsley Potter

Cheryll has been painting and drawing as far back as she can remember and has always loved the process. She was tutored in Oil painting and Watercolour when she was 10 years old and was more formally trained age 16 at Northwich School of Art, Cheshire and age 18 at St Martin's School of Art, London.

Although Cheryll has never taken a teacher training course, she has a natural ability to teach; she is gentle, patient and enjoys helping pupils realise their capabilities.

Iconography Courses

The process of 'writing' an Icon is quite a long one, each Icon taking from 30-40 hours to complete requiring 4 to six days work. The Icon classes are usually for a full day, starting at 10 am and finishing at 5pm, weekly. From time to time Cheryll runs weekend Iconography Courses from Saturday 10am to Sunday 4pm. Priced at £50 per day includes all brushes and pigments. Gessoed Boards and Gold leaf can be purchased from the Studio.

Oil Painting Courses

Cheryll's oil painting courses start with an exercise piece which takes 3 classes to complete. Thereafter each pupil chooses their own subject and she guides them with their chosen style of painting.

The class is of 2 hours duration. Morning classes starting at 10 am and finishing at 12, Evening classes starting at 7.30pm and finishing at 9.30pm Price...£25 per class includes brushes, paints, oil and turpentine. Canvas can be purchased from the Studio.

Watercolour classes

Watercolour classes usualy start with a dicussion about subject matter and how to approach it. Then follows a demonstration of techniques and then an exercise. The class is 2 hours long, mornings only and a painting can be completed in a single class, or may go on for more classes depending on the individual pupil.
