Art and Iconography Painting Tuition

Welcome to Cheryl's Studio where she paints and runs courses and is fully equipped to teach Oil Painting, Watercolour and Iconography, in a well lit and tranquil atmosphere. Her teaching methods are friendly and relaxed teaching small groups of four to five pupils. Classes are always of mixed ability and each new technique will be explained and demonstrated for those starting out, while reinforcing advice for those who have been painting for some time. Teaching small groups of mixed ability encourages and sustains each group.

Cheryll has been painting with oils and Watercolour all her life. She was lucky enough to be mentored by a technically gifted Artist at the tender age of 10 and has painted ever since. She came to Iconography much later after visiting the Monasteries of Meteora in Central Greece. She found a powerful presence in the icons, a silence, a peace and a fierce beauty which she strives to recreate in her own work, whether it is a Portrait, a Landscape, or a Tree. Courses in Iconography, Oil and Watercolour Painting

''Icon writing' as it correctly known is the art of Egg Tempera Painting on Gessoed Wood using Pure Pigments and Gold Leaf. A painting method which dates back to the Byzantine Period. Oil painting is a wonderfully versatile medium, encompassing many and diverse applications of paint. The Iconography Studio

The Studio is located wherever Cheryll finds herself. The last few years in County Galway, Ireland, currently in Stoke Newington, London and in summertime in the South of France. The London Studio is in a quiet residential street and backs onto a sunny and dappled garden. Daylight lighting in the Studio means that courses can run at any time, night or grey day. It also promotes well-being as many people suffer from Seasonal Affected Disorder in the Winter.
